Assessment Video
Please review the Assessment explainer video for information on Math and English Assessment. You can also watch the slideshow.
CANVAS
De Anza uses a program called Canvas for online classroom. Depending on your instructor, it can be used for lectures, assignments, quizzes, discussions with your classmates, and more. As a new student, we ask that you review the ISP modules on Canvas.
Full-time Requirement
International F-1 visa students who will be studying from inside the U.S.MUST enroll and complete certain units in each quarter in order to maintain their immigration status in the U.S. Plan accordingly!
- In Fall, Winter and Spring quarters : minimum of 12 units
- In Summer quarter: minimum of 6 units
Deadline to Drop Classes
If you decide you will not attend De Anza college, you must drop all of your classes by the due date as set by the college.
You’ll find the deadline for your class in MyPortal under “View Your Class Schedule.” This is solely the student's responsibility.
Failing to drop a class before the DUE date means you MUST pay for the tuition. There is no exception to this rule. The ISP office cannot drop classes for you.
Health Insurance
Health Insurance is mandatory for all F-1 visa students who will be studying from inside the U.S. At time of class registration, all students will be charged a fee of $576 for health coverage.
If you will be studying from OUTSIDE the US, we will send you instructions on how to waive your health insurance fee at a later date.

How to request a future quarter I-20
- If you CANNOT arrive in the U.S. before the first day of classes, you have to request a future quarter I-20. To do so, log onto the admission portal and complete this request on the top, right hand corner of the page.
- We receive a high volume of requests. Expect to wait a minimum of 2-3 weeks to receive your new I-20 after you submit your request for next available term. Timeline is longer for more future terms.
- Students may NOT enter the U.S. after a quarter has started. Be sure to request a new I-20 for the quarter you plan on entering the U.S. for.
Steps to Prepare for Your First Quarter
