SEVP has ended its Coronavirus guidance regarding online class enrollment starting Fall term 2023-24. (Posted on May 24, 2023)


The Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) has ended its Coronavirus guidance regarding online class enrollment starting Fall term 2023-24

  • Students must register in on-campus/in-person classes beginning Fall quarter of the 2023-24 academic year. 
  • You will only be allowed to count a maximum of one class toward the mandatory full course load of study (12 units) each quarter.
  • If you wish to take more than 12 units, any additional units over the first 12 can be online. You must stay in on-campus classes in order to enroll in extra online classes.
  • Failure to comply will result in the termination of your F-1 status.

Walk-in PCR Test - FREE for De Anza Students. (Posted on Sept 20, 2022)

If you registered for COVID-19 testing at De Anza before September 2022, you will need to pre-register again, as the provider has moved to a new system. You only need to register once in the new system.

Follow these steps to register:

  1. Scan the QR code below using your mobile phone or visit the new registration site at app.simplehealthkit.com/
  2. Click “Create a New Account”
  3. Enter the appropriate code:
    Students: deanza-stu
  4. Sign the consent form and disclaimer
  5. Provide your insurance information (if you’re uninsured, the Health Services staff will assist you during the registration process)
  6. For any registration issues, you can request help by emailing  support@simplehealthkit.com

Update On Online Enrollment For 2022/2023 School Year (Posted on May 4, 2022)

SEVP recently announced that the current regulations for F-1 student online enrollment will remain the same for the upcoming academic year. This means that for the Fall 2022, Winter 2023 and Spring 2023 Quarters: 

  • All F-1 students with active SEVIS records need to enroll and complete a minimum of 12 units per quarter, as always

  • F-1 students who have been continuously in active F-1 status since March 2020 or before may continue to enroll in all online classes.

  • F-1 students who entered the U.S. with an initial I-20 any time after March 2020 should continue to enroll in at least one hybrid or in-person class every quarter. All other units can be taken in any format (online, hybrid or in person).

  • F-1 students who never entered the U.S. with an initial I-20, are allowed to take all online classes outside of the U.S.and are not required to take a minimum of 12 units until they arrive in the U.S.

Online Enrollment Updates (Posted on April 14, 2022)

As more classes and services are offered on campus, we wanted to remind all current F-1 students of the regulations for online enrollment and provide an update on when these regulations might change.

  • For Spring 2022, the same regulations will remain in place, allowing you to enroll in more than one online class (and all online classes if you were in active status before March 2020).
  • These regulations are scheduled to expire in July 2022. We do not yet know what changes SEVP will put forward in July.
  • The regulations for Fall 2022 will depend on the new guidance from SEVP and the percentage of in-person classes that De Anza College will offer for fall quarter. 
  • We expect to have more information in the coming months, so please monitor your email closely during the spring and summer for important immigration updates.

Free COVID-19 Tests Available (Posted on Jan 20, 2022)

While the omicron surge continues, we’d like to make sure that you are aware of that you can obtain at-home antigen testing kits for free by mail to your home.
Also, you can now order one set of four free at-home tests, made available by the federal government, from USPS.com. Orders will ship free starting in late January — only one order per household.
We encourage you to take advantage of these opportunities to access test kits so you can continue to keep yourself and others healthy.

All continuing F-1 students returning to the U.S need an I-20 with a valid travel signature.(Posted on Dec 2, 2021)

If you have a signature on Page 2 of your I-20 that is dated within the last 12 months, you can travel with the current signature.  Please contact an International Student Advisor to confirm that there are no problems with your immigration record before travel:

If you do not have a current signature on your I-20, email an International Student Advisor (see above) to request an electronic signature on your I-20 one month before you return to the U.S.  To request a travel signature, please email your International Student Advisor the following information:

  1. Passport name
  2. CWID or student ID number
  3. Birth date and/or SEVIS ID number
  4. Subject: I-20 travel signature
  5. The date you plan to return to the U.S.

International students must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 to travel to the United States by plane. More information, including exceptions to the vaccination requirement, can be found on the CDC's website

COVID Vax Required to Register for On-Campus Classes. (Posted on Nov 11, 2021)

De Anza is requiring everyone who comes to campus to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Proof of COVID-19 vaccination will be required in order to register for any in-person or hybrid class as well as to come to campus for any other purpose/service.

As with the current quarter, continuing F-1 students may choose to enroll in any combination of online, hybrid, or in-person classes for Winter 2022. You do NOT need to provide proof of vaccination to register for fully online classes.

  • Visit the Rules for Returning to Campus webpage to find step-by-step instructions for uploading proof of vaccination via the PyraMed app in MyPortal. (If you already submitted your vaccination record for fall quarter, you don't need to submit again for winter.)
  • You must have received all required doses of a FDA or WHO-approved vaccine such as Pfizer, Johnsson & Johnson, Astra Zeneca, COVID Shield, SINOPharm etc. at least two weeks before coming to campus.
  • You should submit proof of your final vaccination at least three days before you plan to register for an on-campus class, to allow time for verification. The registration system will show a message that says "COVID-19 vaccination proof required" if you attempt to enroll in any on-campus class before your record is verified.

NEW POLICY: All New Arrivals Must Be Vaccinated (Effective Nov. 8, 2021)

The White House announced that vaccines will be required for international travelers coming into the United States, with an effective date of Nov. 8, 2021. For purposes of entry into the United States, vaccines accepted will include FDA- approved or FDA-authorized and WHO Emergency Use Listing vaccines. More information is available on this CDC website.

COVID-19 Vaccination

COVID-19 vaccines are available for free at many vaccination sites, but some may charge administrative or other nominal fees.  Please visit covid19.ca.gov/vaccines/ to determine your eligibility and to sign up for an a vaccination appointment when you are eligible.

* Vaccinations are not covered through your international student health insurance. However, as long as you receive your vaccine through a local government vaccination site, you should not be charged.

  • Acceptable COVID-19 vaccines are approved by the FDA or the World Health Organization (WHO) (including Astra Zeneca, SinoPharm BIBP, Serum Institute of India, etc.)
  • We encourage you to get vaccinated before coming to the U.S. If that is not possible, the COVID-19 vaccine is available in California free of charge and at many different locations.
  • NEW Please note: We do need to be able to read the vaccine records in English. If you are having a translation done, please make sure it is authorized by an agency who does translations with appropriate stamps and original signatures.
