The Retention Support Services team provides students on academic and progress probation with resources to assist their return to good academic standing.
Three Ways to Reach Us
If you're on academic or progress probation, we strongly encourage you to contact the Retention Support Services team, which is part of De Anza's General Counseling Division. We can advise you about your status and steps you should take.
Use the eAdvising System for a Quick Question
You can use eAdvising to send us a question. Here's how:
- First, click the yellow bar that says "Log In to eAdvising"
- Once you are in, click Ask a Question
- From the drop-down menu select Academic or Progress Probation Questions and Holds
- Type in your question and any details that will help us understand your situation, and then click Submit
Drop-In for 10-15 Minutes on Zoom
Have a quick online chat with a member of the Retention Support Team – no appointment needed – during the hours listed below.
Click the yellow bar that says "Drop In Via Zoom" to log in for a 10-15 minute virtual session. You can have a brief chat about academic or progress probation.
Winter Quarter (virtual) Drop-in Hours:
- Mondays: 10:00 am to 12:00 pm (with a counselor)
- Tuesdays: 10:00 am to 12:00 pm (with a staff member)
- Wed / Thurs: 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm (with a staff member)
- Fridays: 10:00 am to 12:00 pm (with a counselor)
Make an Appointment
Click the yellow bar that says "Make an Appointment" to schedule a longer meeting with the retention counselor.
If you are part of a program that has its own counselors, (such as International Student Programs, De Anza College Promise, EOPS or Veterans, or a Learning Community such as Puente, Umoja, IMPACT AAPI or Men of Color), please make an appointment with your program counselor by using the Our Counselors directory.
Updates and Announcements
Special Grade Policy for COVID-19
In consideration of the disruptions caused by COVID-19, the college adopted a temporary policy for grades earned in the winter, spring, summer and fall of 2020:
- A grade of F earned for any 2020 term will not be counted in calculating earned units or Grade Point Averages.
- Grades of D-plus, D and D-minus earned for any 2020 term will not be counted in calculating Grade Point Averages.
The college had planned to extend this policy for winter 2021, based on guidance from the California Community Colleges Chancellor’s Office. However, because other colleges and universities have applied different policies, De Anza College has decided to resume counting D and F grades for winter 2021 and future quarters. If you believe this will create a significant hardship for you, please contact the Admissions and Records Office for assistance. (Updated March 25, 2021)
