Interacting with Law Enforcement: Keeping It Real

In May 2021, BFSA hosted a panel discussion about interacting with law enforcement. The panel also talked about implicit biases from the civilian and police perspectives.

This discussion was moderated by students Khari Crawford and Justice Merriman, members of the Black Student Union. Panelists were

  • Dr. Benjamin Bowser Author, professor emeritus and former chair of Sociology and Social Services at California State University, East Bay
  • Dr. Tommy Tunson Retired chief of police, consultant and current director of public safety programs and professor of Criminal Justice at Bakersfield Community College
  • Sergeant DuJuan Green – Palo Alto police sergeant and adjunct Administration of Justice instructor at De Anza College
  • Derrick Felton – VITAS Healthcare veteran liaison, adjunct Psychology instructor and student mental health counselor at De Anza College
  • Ramona Gabriel – San Mateo County Adult Probation Services manager and adjunct Administration of Justice instructor at De Anza College

(Note: Unfortunately, the video recording started after this panel discussion began, so the first few minutes of introductions and comments are not included.)
